Since we are in a fighting mood, I will throw some fuel to the fire :) :)
When you think about it, reservation and quota system is actually a better deal for the upper caste.

As per the above picture, 52% of people in India belongs to Backward classes according to Mandal estimates. Since the proposed reservation for them is 27%, the reservation system works in favor of Forward classes as long as Backward classes are not uplifted from their current pathetic situation. Another way of looking at the graph is that 25.5% of people in India belongs to forward classes; and their share in the Indian pie in terms of higher education of job opportunities --> (100 - 27 - 22.5 = 50.5%). Personally I like this system, than 25.5% of us getting only 25.5% of our share.
To conclude:

This country has opened its doors with a warm smile and a big heart for every hard working, highly-skilled legal immigrant who has one common thing more than anything else with every American � the American dream. Andy Grove of Intel, Sergey Brin of Google, Vinodh Khosla of Sun Microsystems are excellent examples of people who migrated to the US for higher education and then went on to found billion-dollar companies that employs thousands of Americans.
Everyday pressures at work, paying for mortgage, taking care of children are challenges that every working American goes through. But little is known about the silent pain and anxiety of high-skilled, tax-paying, law-abiding doctors, engineers and scientists who have to constantly keep track of their position in the "queue" to obtain their permanent residency status, more commonly the 'green card', as a first step towards calling America their home. Sometimes, the wait in the line can last as long as ten years. The wait comes with several restrictions like being bound to the particular job position with the sponsoring employer for as many years, foregoing promotions and inability to change jobs at will � work conditions unimaginable for an average American employee.
Sometimes the position in the long queue moves forward, when even a small movement causing immense joy and anticipation among the employees while sometimes the position moves backwards causing the employee to endure further pain. Historically the US government has opened the doors for the final stage of the green card application (where the applicant can adjust or change their status from any current non-immigrant status to a permanent resident status) every 3 years or so for a small window of time that typically lasts 30 -60 days. On June 13 th 2007 when the US government announced that July 2nd 2007 was the beginning of the one such window of time, the news sent thousands of prospective applicants into a tizzy mixed with relief, anticipation and joy. Many spent thousands of dollars in preparing required documentation, lawyer fee and canceling travel arrangements, to get their applications in on the first day itself.
Alas! With a hitherto unprecedented action, on the morning of July 2nd 2007, the same US government agency, with a terse and nondescript press release went back on its promise and slammed its door shut for any green card application. This action is clearly condemnable, unacceptable and unfair to thousands of high-skilled employees who contribute positively towards strengthening the US economy. Many feel wounded at the inhumane treatment in the hands of US immigration department and are contemplating migrating back to their homeland or to more immigrant friendly countries. However, a strong majority still trusts the US government to implement meaningful reforms specifically targeting legal immigrants while they continue to endure untold sufferings.

Dear mpkmaster, it is easy to ignore facts and throw stones like "your are rasist". And it is not easy to face the reality. Since you are so smart, I would like to ask you some questions:
1. Why there are long immigration lines in the US, Europe, Australia, Canada, Singapore etc, and almost none for Mexico, Latin America, Middle East etc. Maybe because these countries a full of "racists" ?
2. Tell me why some some people/countries can manage their economy and become attractive centers for immigration and other are just hell holes. There is a huge difference between Japan, S. Korea, China and N. Korea and they are populated by the same race - what has racism has to do with that ?
3. Why did you immigrate from your own country?
I will tell you one thing - due to my profession I have visited most countries in the world, including India. And definitely have a better understanding what is racism, what is protectionism, what is laziness, stupidity etc. Do not hide all these behind "racism", won't work...

Hi,
There are several restrictions/constraints for many ppl for not being able to devote time/money for the general cause. Let's not fret about the reasons. While it would help for all ppl to join forces that should not distract the group that is doing something about the issues.
And ppl on the sidelines - pls don't be a passive professional critique. However valuable your comments and ideas are they are useless without acting upon it - they are just like seeds sown in a barren land. The good work of the forum will continue without your presence. With your involvement we all can reach the goal that much more faster.
My Labor certification is actually filed in the state of IL. But i am on an assignment in MD till Sep 2010 (after filing for relevant amendments).
It's ~5 hrs drive for me to Baltimore/Washington-DC. So, coming every week for a meeting is not practical. I am extremely eager to support OUR cause given the commuting constraints. I have already written to our congress man here to bring to his notice the struggles of wannabee immigrants.
So, where do i sign up?

We have thousands here. We take just 1000 people and if everyone contributes 100 dollars - its 100,000 dollars. Just an estimate for lawyer fees incase we get that far
We are from BHARAT. Its a loaded statement. WE dont lose.
TOGETHER WE STAND, TOGETHER WE STAND my brothers and sisters.
It sounds easy..but funding drives are not always easy when reality strikes...how about starting a spreadsheet with names and ph# of people who are willing to contribute $100 for this lawsuit. As soon as we have the 1000th name, we start depositing money to a bank account. 100 grand is not small amount and I am sure we can find a good enough lawyer to start a lawsuit for that kind of money.
I and my wife are ready with our 100 bucks each.....and can help with maintaing the spreadsheet etc.... how do we get those 1000 names now....or do we even have support of 1000 people around here...that is the biggest question.

My case was received by NSC on JUN 1st. They issued the recipt numbers on JUN 5th. I am still waiting on my wifes. They could clear on Monday.. Looks like NSC is also trying to speed up things. They are just one day slower than TSC in issuing recepts.

Lets do a poll and we will get some idea about the count. Idea should be that each IV member who is voting "Yes" for the poll should try to convince and bring some more friends (non IV members who got affected with July VB) with him to participate in the rally
